What You'll Do As a Construction Inspector - Transportation , you will support construction projects from initiation through completion, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications while collaborating with project teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in bridge, roadway, highway, or related public works construction inspection
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience with Caltrans projects
  • Experience inspecting public works for local agencies, municipalities, or utilities
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Ability to work on-site in active construction environments, including walking uneven terrain, climbing, and working in varying weather and site conditions

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily site inspections to verify work complies with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Coordinate activities with clients, contractors, consultants, designers, and regulatory agencies to support project progress and compliance.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, including detailed documentation and progress photos.
  • Review contractor schedules and monitor progress to ensure alignment with project timelines.
  • Track potential change order issues, document disputed work, and assist with evaluating and recording changes.
  • Assist with monthly pay estimates, including measuring and documenting quantities for completed work.
