About The Position

As our Construction Inspector, you will utilize your expertise to observe and document the construction of various roadway, highway and other transportation projects while adhering to safety practices, understanding client goals, establishing effective client relationships, and helping develop others on the team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in bridge construction, roadway construction, inspection of highways or related public works projects
  • High School diploma or equivalent education
  • Prior Caltrans Experience
  • Experience inspecting public works for local agencies, municipalities, and utilities
  • Knowledge of the construction process and the ability to read, understand and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Ability to work on-site in a construction trailer or building; ability to walk on uneven surfaces, stand, climb ladders, crawl, stoop, and enter confined spaces; tolerate heat, cold, dirt, odors, and other construction hazards may exist

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily site inspections to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications and codes
  • Coordinate activities with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers, and regulatory agencies and support labor compliance efforts
  • Prepare daily reports including taking daily progress photos
  • Review the contractor's schedule progress
  • Coordinate with the contractor for planning and scheduling of required inspections
  • Review and provide input on potential change order issues, track and record disputed work, and/or change order work
  • Assist with monthly pay estimates, measure and record pay quantities
