Requirements

  • A four-year degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Certification as an Engineer-in-Training.
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience in structural construction inspection for highways or major public works projects.
  • OR A masters or doctorate degree in civil or structural engineering or a bachelors degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience in structural construction inspection for highways or major public works projects.
  • Experience working with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards, specifications, and the Construction Manual, as well as Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must meet internal requirements for operating company vehicles, maintain a valid drivers license, and have an insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Resident Engineer in all aspects of field Structural Construction Inspection services and office engineering work.
  • Understand and address client and customer needs.
  • Adhere to customer safety protocols at all times.
  • Complete required documentation, including daily Inspectors Daily Reports.
  • Perform inspections to ensure quality workmanship, including field measurements of construction materials and products.
  • Monitor construction Contractors quality control operations, traffic control, and any special environmental contract requirements.
  • Identify changes, errors, or field adjustments to contract documents and recommend corrective action to the Resident Engineer.
