M&J is seeking the role of Construction Inspector - Level III. The ideal Construction Inspectors should have extensive experience overseeing heavy highway construction projects. Candidates must have hands-on expertise in various tasks, including the reconstruction and rehabilitation of asphalt concrete pavement, slide repairs, culvert replacement, drainage assessment and improvements, pavement markings and other miscellaneous works. The inspectors should also be knowledgeable in signing, pavement markings, and other related roadway work. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) is required.

Requirements

  • One of the following: o NICET Level III (or higher) certification in highway or bridge construction, or equivalent state certification o Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification o Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology
  • Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible construction engineering experience, including at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role on state or federal transportation projects.
  • Comprehensive understanding of highway construction methods, traffic control, environmental compliance, and materials testing.
  • Ability to interpret complex construction documents, schedules, and cost data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Primavera or similar scheduling software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior field inspector providing technical support to the Project Engineer on complex roadway and drainage construction operations.
  • Inspect construction activities including traffic control, environmental compliance measures, layout, materials, and construction methods.
  • Assess the acceptability of contractor work on a daily basis and coordinate corrective actions for non-conforming work.
  • Review contractor daily reports, material submittals, and testing results, and provide recommendations for acceptance or rejection.
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor quality control inspection and testing programs for compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Measure and document installed quantities of work and assist with preparation and verification of monthly progress estimates.
  • Maintain project documentation including daily diaries, IDRs, material registers, and as-built records.
  • Provide technical input related to potential contract changes and assist with independent cost estimates when requested.
