M&J is seeking the position of Construction Inspector - Level II. The ideal Construction Inspectors should have extensive experience overseeing heavy highway construction projects. Candidates must have hands-on expertise in various tasks, including the reconstruction and rehabilitation of asphalt concrete pavement, slide repairs, culvert replacement, drainage assessment and improvements, pavement markings and other miscellaneous works. The inspectors should also be knowledgeable in signing, pavement markings, and other related roadway work. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) is required.

Requirements

  • One of the following credentials: o NICET Level II (or higher) certification in a transportation or construction discipline, or equivalent state certification o Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification o Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in highway or heavy civil construction inspection.
  • Working knowledge of roadway construction materials, inspection practices, and field documentation requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and standard details.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day field inspections of roadway and drainage construction activities to confirm compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Inspect traffic control devices, erosion and sediment control measures, construction layout, materials, and workmanship.
  • Evaluate contractor work for conformance and promptly notify the Project Engineer or senior staff of deficiencies or non-conforming work.
  • Review contractor daily reports and provide recommendations regarding acceptance or required revisions.
  • Observe and verify contractor quality control operations, including material testing activities, to ensure alignment with the approved Quality Control Plan.
  • Measure quantities of work completed and assist with verification of pay quantities.
  • Complete Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRs), logs, and other required documentation in accordance with EFLHD procedures.
  • Perform sampling and basic in-place testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt pavement, as required.
