About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Field Services Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of a Chief Construction Inspector. Employees of this classification function in a position in which knowledge and application of City Construction Plans and Specifications are required; however, specialized skills, knowledge, and abilities related to the specific areas of construction must have been obtained prior to assuming the position. Essential job functions include: conducting inspections of building(s), paving, storm sewers, bridges, sanitary sewers, water lines, driveways, paving cuts and repairs; recording information; and interpreting and explaining construction plans and specifications which are applicable to public sector construction. The employee offers advice to contractors, citizens, and workers on problems occurring on public construction projects in order to ensure that work being performed and materials utilized on the project are in compliance with Construction Plans and Specifications. The Construction Inspector I works on a semi-independent basis with unusual problems or situations referred to the Chief Construction Inspector. Work is reviewed by a supervisor on a periodic basis for quality, accuracy of information and adherence to proper policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Oklahoma City Construction Plans and Specifications.
  • Skill in recording information accurately.
  • Ability to communicate, using tact and diplomacy, in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to interpret, explain, and apply knowledge of Construction Plans and Specifications to work performed.
  • Ability and willingness to be objective in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to enforce and uphold City Construction Plans and Specifications.
  • Possession of a valid driver license (Operator).
  • Ability to determine compliance of building construction with blueprints and written specifications.
  • Ability to inspect construction of paving, storm sewers, and bridges to ensure compliance with City Plans and Specifications.
  • Ability to inspect sanitary sewers to ensure compliance with City Plans and Specifications.
