Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or have completed the state requirements for a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Must have one (1) year of full‑time work experience in construction work, CAD (computer aided design) and/or surveying.
  • NOTE: One (1) year of college coursework including at least two (2) courses in drafting and/or engineering may be substituted for the experience indicated above.
  • Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to accurately convey information.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and outdoor construction conditions.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or be a passenger.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the inspection and monitoring of construction projects involving County drains, water systems, sewer systems, and facilities using blueprints, job specifications, and digital tools
  • Observe, record, and document construction activities to ensure materials and workmanship meet approved plans and standards
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of inspections and report project progress to supervision
  • Interact with property owners and contractors to support project coordination and communication
  • Perform basic soil condition reviews, field measurements, and apply fundamental math skills in daily work
  • Interpret construction plans and specifications to support compliance and quality assurance
  • Use video equipment to document site conditions before and after construction
  • Ensure job sites are safe and secure prior to leaving each location
  • Conduct soil erosion inspections to confirm proper controls are in place at County drains, wetlands, lakes, and waterways
  • Remain alert to safety hazards and follow all safety protocols
