About The Position

As a Construction Inspection Intern, you will spend your summer with our Construction Services segment focusing on materials testing and construction management for our active construction projects. As a member of our project teams, you will work hands-on alongside our inspectors, supporting active projects, and gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of construction management from preconstruction to delivery. You will be assigned a personal mentor to help support your development and guide you through projects. Our interns also take part in our AEC Intern Rotation Program. Interns will rotate with other firms and their interns in the KC Metro to gain an understanding of how companies work together to complete projects from start to finish. This internship will take place from May 26th through July 31, 2026, and will be 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • 0+ years experience
  • Interested in learning about federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, building codes, construction materials (such as); soil, concrete, rebar layout, masonry, steel, etc. relevant to projects involving roadway/paving, pipelines, renovations, bridge, tunnels, drainage, and materials verification/design
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Well organized and demonstrated interpersonal relations skills
  • Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to walk up/down stairs
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions
  • Currently enrolled in a Construction Management or related program
  • Studies related to engineering, drafting, survey, and/or construction management

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience in construction management by being on job sites daily, learning from our experienced crew, and gaining real-world construction experiences from all stages of a project life cycle.
  • Input data into pre-written computer programs
  • Operate computer and runs reports or calculations
  • Interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Observe construction operations on various sites to assess conformance to plans and specifications
  • Perform construction materials testing
  • Communicate effectively with other staff, contractor personnel, and client representatives
