About The Position

As a Seasonal Construction Fiber Optic Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting fiber drop splicing and activation efforts. This hands-on role focuses on connecting customers to our network by splicing fiber drops, verifying service readiness, and ensuring accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience with fiber drop splicing and activation.
  • Familiarity with RF, fiber, and HFC systems.
  • Complete Construction First Time (FTR) certification within 60 days of hire and consistently apply principles in all aspects of work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. A DUI conviction within the past 5 years will result in disqualification from employment in this position.
  • Must develop working knowledge of CATV Networks, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, federal, state and local regulations, general safety standards, and the entire telecommunications system configuration.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as NCTI, SCTE, or other broadband and fiber-related qualifications.
  • Prior experience in fiber splicing within the telecommunications industry.

Responsibilities

  • Splice and maintain new and existing fiber.
  • Activate fiber services by verifying signal integrity and completing required testing.
  • Ensure all fiber assignments are completed accurately, including proper labeling and documentation.
  • Maintain precise records in GIS fiber management systems.
  • Conduct pre-checks to verify traffic and ensure readiness for activation.
  • Read and interpret fiber schematics, splicing diagrams, and cable maps.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations to resolve issues and support service delivery.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with standards.
  • Assist with site surveys and prepare accurate as-builts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Midco’s safety program by enforcing safety rules and procedures, wearing appropriate safety apparel (e.g., hard hats, safety vests, OSHA-approved boots), and operating all equipment safely.
  • Operate and drive a company vehicle in compliance with all Midco policies and procedures, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to traffic laws. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure regular maintenance and repairs are conducted as scheduled to uphold a professional image.

  • Ensure customer privacy by adhering to Midco’s privacy guidelines while actively following Midco policies and procedures.
  • Maintain reliable and predictable attendance as required by the position.
