About The Position

The Construction Equipment Operator I position is located within the Commercial Aviation Division of the Airports Department in the City of Oklahoma City. This role is under the direct supervision of an immediate supervisor and requires the operator to possess the necessary licenses and certifications prior to operating assigned equipment. The incumbent will undergo departmental training programs aimed at enhancing their skills in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety. The primary responsibilities include driving and operating various light and heavy construction or maintenance equipment while adhering to all safety and maintenance procedures related to the equipment's operation and condition. Operators may be tasked with using equipment such as front-end loaders, graders, dozers, slurry seal machines, tractors, backhoes, tandem trucks, tractor-trailer rigs, vectors, and slope mowers. Additionally, specialized attachments like snowplows and trailers may be utilized for specific job assignments. The role may also involve working independently or in collaboration with other workers on construction or maintenance projects. In the absence of a supervisor, the operator may assume lead-worker responsibilities, ensuring effective project completion. Due to the nature of the job, operators must be prepared to perform maintenance tasks and respond to equipment malfunctions or adverse weather conditions. Work instructions will be provided both verbally and in writing, with performance reviewed through inspections and reports. This position is classified as safety-sensitive, meaning operators are subject to disciplinary action if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. The role requires a commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service, with a focus on delivering quality work and maintaining high standards of performance. The working conditions involve outdoor environments with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards associated with operating heavy machinery.
