About The Position

The Construction Engineer is a field-focused professional with extensive construction experience who plans small to medium projects and then leads on-site project execution from mobilization through closeout or hand-off to operations. This position requires leveraging existing construction knowledge and experience to help conceptualize and present project plans to the client. This role emphasizes regular presence in the field, hands-on coordination of subcontractors and suppliers, and real-time problem solving to keep projects safe, on schedule, and within budget. The Construction Engineer bridges engineering intent and construction reality, ensuring work is executed in accordance with contract documents, quality standards, and operational requirements while maintaining clear communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted.
  • Experience: Commercial construction or rapid-response deployment experience preferred, with demonstrated success planning and executing small to medium construction projects and significant time spent in the field.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, team building, problem-solving, adaptability, and time management skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and field coordination, including management of subcontractors, suppliers, RFIs, submittals, and change conditions.
  • Professional Requirements: Ability to maintain confidentiality and work primarily in active construction environments, with travel as required.

  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) and OSHA 30 certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop small to medium construction projects from concept through execution, leveraging prior construction experience to define scope, sequencing, schedules, and budgets.
  • Support conceptual planning and assist in presenting project approaches, logistics plans, and execution strategies to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to identify constructability issues, risks, and field constraints early in the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and procurement teams to align project plans with operational requirements and client expectations.
  • Lead on-site construction activities from mobilization through closeout or hand-off to operations, serving as the primary field representative for the company.
  • Maintain a regular and active presence in the field to monitor work progress, safety compliance, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate daily activities of subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews to ensure proper sequencing and efficient execution of work.
  • Identify and resolve construction challenges in real time, applying practical field experience to minimize schedule and cost impacts.

  • Communicate schedule risks, safety concerns, quality issues, and execution challenges promptly to project leadership and clients.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, and transition to operations.
  • Assist in identifying, evaluating, and coordinating subcontractors and suppliers to meet project-specific construction requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with trade partners to ensure timely delivery, quality workmanship, and responsiveness.
  • Provide field-driven feedback on subcontractor performance, constructability, and lessons learned to improve future project execution.
