About The Position

The Construction Discipline Engineer (Pipe/Mechanical) is responsible for planning and technical oversight of field construction activities within a specified discipline associated with procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components. The role involves coordinating with design agencies to ensure timely issuance of new designs or design changes, walking down and reviewing designs for constructability, resolving design problems encountered in the field during construction, and meeting with design engineers to discuss solutions. The engineer inspects and verifies materials, equipment, and construction workmanship to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and code requirements. The position also requires participation in turnover activities and support in the start-up and functional check-out of equipment and systems. A thorough understanding of construction engineering principles and the ability to apply these principles to field conditions is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in specified discipline engineering and at least 5 years of practical experience in construction specified discipline field engineering
  • Associate's degree in specified discipline engineering and 5-10 years of practical experience in construction specified discipline engineering
  • High school diploma and 10+ years of practical experience in construction specified discipline engineering
  • Working knowledge of discipline specific codes and standards
  • Previous experience with generating work execution plans (preferably utilizing the Asset Suite work control system)
  • Previous experience with generating job hazards analysis
  • Previous experience performing material take off and procurement

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced with pipe / tubing fabrication and installation
  • Experienced with pipe support fabrication and installation
  • Experienced with pipe testing, hydrostatic and pneumatic
  • Familiar with National Codes ASME Piping codes B31.1 and B31.3
  • Capable of interpreting design drawings, P&ID’s and Orthographics
  • Knowledge of SRS specific piping guides and standards
  • Familiar with National Codes and Standards (ASME relative to Tank fabrication/installation, rotating and stationary Equipment, H&V, Insulation, etc.)
  • Experienced in H&V fabrication / installation / testing
  • Experienced in setting of equipment, pumps and alignments
  • Knowledge of SRS specific mechanical guides and standards
  • Experience in developing ordinary and critical lift plans
  • Experienced in radiological work planning and hazard analysis
  • Capable of climbing and spending extended periods of time in the field
  • Capable of obtaining qualification to work in radiological work areas

  • Understand layout / survey needs and generate layout / survey requests
  • Generate hazards analysis for field execution of construction scope
  • Support/lead team hazard analysis review meetings
  • Generate or support the generation of job specific permits as required
  • Attend / chair execution plan review meetings
  • Develop routing for list for hazards analysis approval
  • Develop routing list for work plan approval
  • Coordinate and expedite work package approval routing
  • Disposition comments to the work execution plan
  • Assemble approved work execution plan
  • Provide status & update of work execution plan in the SRS work control passport system
  • Lead pre-job briefings with craft workers
  • Perform task ready walk down with craft supervision
  • Verify quantities of installed commodities
  • Coordinate daily field support
  • Expedite / order material as required
  • Coordinate material testing
  • Coordinate and status shop fabrication in support of field execution
  • Perform field inspections
  • Identify and coordinate resolution of field installation issues
  • Generate design completion notices
  • Ensure accuracy of work execution plan status
  • Close all required permits
  • Close work execution plan documentation
