About The Position

Under the supervision of the Vice-President, the Construction Director provides leadership and coordinates the operational and financial aspects of construction projects in collaboration with the Project Manager on site. They are the primary liaison with the client’s project management team. The Construction Director also helps to identify potential leads and assists estimators with the development of pricing proposals. An enforcer of Best Practices and Quality Programs, process utilization, safety, and risk management; and is a cultural manager by ensuring that the company’s fundamental values and beliefs are followed and maintained. The Construction Director will work to develop a good understanding of the power and energy generation market. They will strive to obtain knowledge that promotes and allows them to engage in electrical, civil, and structural discussions.

Requirements

  • Four-year construction or engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • At least ten years of supervisory experience in a related construction industry (i.e., heavy civil, industrial, utilities, power generation).
  • Experience in the construction of several wind and solar projects is required.
  • Effective leadership and communication (oral, written, presentation) skills
  • Knowledge of State Legislation and Practices
  • Knowledge and experience in cost accounting
  • Exposure to construction regulations and rules
  • Adaptive, problem-solving orientation
  • Conceptual skills and ability to develop work plans and project schedules
  • Acts with humility, preparedness, and confidence
  • Keeps all appropriate matters confidential and ensures site management team does as well
  • Advanced experience with using Microsoft office suite, i.e., MS Project, Office, Excel, etc., and project management tools

Responsibilities

  • Choose professionals / consultants
  • Establish budget and programming
  • Verify constructability—budget, costs, schedule, clients’ needs, value analysis
  • Verify required permits and authorizations—laws and regulation
  • Understand costs and analyze value
  • Collaborate to prepare and submit all legal contracts and exhibits with client.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to prepare and submit all legal documents for Engineers, Vendors and Subcontractors.
  • Prepare master schedule—dates, main construction steps, constraints, work methods, etc.
  • Supervise calls for bids
  • Finalize plans and specs
  • Analyze and negotiate bids
  • Prepare recommendations as well as contract awards and obtain clients’ approval
  • Award contracts.
  • Determine the construction team for construction sites in collaboration with the vice-president, the HR manager and the logistics director.
  • Supervise work methods planning in collaboration with the vice-president and the superintendent
  • Approve list of activities to enable preparation of the prevention program
  • Establish a list of items for cost follow-up and project accounting
  • Settle disputes in collaboration with the project manager
  • Organize and conduct construction site meetings as required
  • Supervise site wrap-up manual preparation with the administrative assistant and inform them about all conditions and techniques
  • Supervise administrative follow-ups—costs, contingencies, boards, claims, etc.
  • Authorize payments of accounts payable and verify accounts receivable
  • Authorize payments to subcontractors and suppliers
  • Cultivate business relationships with all clients, past and present, with the future in mind
  • Measure satisfaction of clients and maintain a good relationship with them
  • Approve project wrap-up—construction method, productivity ratio, unit prices, etc.
  • Represent the company with potential clients and for the purpose of obtaining new contracts
  • Represent the company during events set up by organizations targeted by the company
  • Develop and cultivate healthy relationships with past and current clients
  • Take part in events with potential high visibility for the company.
  • Assist in promoting Borea by participating in recruitment activities such as interviewing candidates
  • Collaborate and cooperate with all corporate departments
  • Participate in corporate subcommittees
  • Stay current with technical developments from other Construction Managers/Project Managers and personnel.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
