About The Position

The Construction Design Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all phases of design and construction projects within Lowes Foods and Alex Lee Retail. The position requires regular collaboration with internal teams, architects, engineers, procurement, and third-party contractors to ensure design intent, project timelines, and quality standards are consistently met. Key duties include managing the development and approval of project drawings and documents, evaluating and approving materials and finishes, and maintaining up-to-date equipment specifications and documentation. The individual will participate in prototype design committees, oversee the review process for millwork and décor, and champion value engineering initiatives to drive continuous improvement and cost efficiency. Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Project Management.
  • 5-7 years experience in retail grocery construction.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents.
  • Strong Problem Solving and Communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and time management.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Strong background in both design and engineering.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient use of AutoCAD for design and drafting.
  • Maintaining comprehensive equipment specifications and documentation.
  • Coordinating with procurement, architects, engineers, and internal teams for project modifications.
  • Managing design and equipment changes in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Overseeing the development and timing of project drawings.
  • Participating in prototype design committees for grocery stores.
  • Reviewing and approving millwork, decor, and construction documents at critical stages.
  • Evaluating materials and finishes, including pricing and approvals.
  • Leading Value Engineering initiatives and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Updating and maintaining refrigeration legends.
  • Final review and approval of Construction Drawings prior to bid (60%, 80%, 100% sets).
  • Routinely interact with the Director of Facility Engineering to create alignment, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects.
  • Research as needed for new construction materials, equipment or application of construction materials that lower the cost of the construction work.
