About The Position

The position involves working under the general supervision of a Resident Engineer, focusing on ensuring that all materials and equipment incorporated into the finished job meet the required plans and specifications. The role includes ensuring proper installation and workmanship, adherence to safety requirements, and compliance with progress schedules. The incumbent will review contractor's shop drawing details to ascertain adherence to contract requirements and will primarily work on solving technical problems, interpreting design and installation details, and managing proposed contract changes and payment estimates. Additionally, the position requires reviewing pre-bid plans and specifications for Biddability/Constructability/Operability (BCO) to assess practicality from a construction standpoint, evaluating contractor price proposals for additional work, and ensuring satisfactory construction progress on-site.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a background investigation.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Potential to be appointed as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and obtain certification.
  • Work involves using numerous special safety precautions, including wearing personal protective clothing and using man-lifts.
  • Physical demands include stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and working in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to hazardous wastes, asbestos, dust, and gases is frequent.

Responsibilities

  • Works under general supervision of Resident Engineer.

  • Ensures proper installation and workmanship, safety requirements, adherence to progress schedules, etc.
  • Reviews contractor's shop drawing details to ascertain adherence of the proposed work to contract requirements.
  • Solves technical problems and interprets design and installation details.
  • Reviews pre-bid plans and specifications for Biddability/Constructability/Operability (BCO).
  • Reviews contractors' price proposals for additional work and payment estimate items.
  • Evaluates on-the-job construction progress to ensure satisfactory contractor performance.
