About The Position

The Construction and Safety Inspector I/II/III position at Eastern Municipal Water District involves performing quality-control and safety inspections of public works, waterworks, and utility construction projects. Requirements

  • Construction and Safety Inspector I: Two years of construction trades work experience.
  • Construction and Safety Inspector II: Three years of progressively responsible construction trades work experience, or one year as a Construction and Safety Inspector I with the District.
  • Construction and Safety Inspector III: Four years of progressively responsible construction trades work experience, or one year as a Construction and Safety Inspector II with the District.
  • A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle insurance policy.
  • Field Testing Technician Grade I certification by the American Concrete Institute is desired for Inspector I, required for Inspector II and III.

Nice To Haves

  • Water Distribution Operator Grade I certificate issued by Department of Health Services (desired for Inspector II and III).
  • Certification as a commercial electrical inspector issued by the International Code Council (ICC) (required for Electrical Inspections within 12 months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality-control and safety inspections of public works, waterworks, and utility construction projects.
  • Interpret plans and specifications to ensure contract compliance.
  • Conduct field tests and interpret observations and test results.
  • Detect and locate faulty materials and workmanship.
  • Review and analyze construction plans and specifications for compliance with standards.
  • Coordinate activities with contractors, engineers, and property owners.
  • Enforce specifications and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, vendors, contractors, and District staff.
