A Day in the Life of the Construction and Maintenance Technician I: Perform basic troubleshooting, repair and alignment of forward and return paths, including AC/DC voltage, RF levels, cable modems and RSUs. Perform RF troubleshooting and repairs, and escalate unresolved issues to appropriate work groups as needed. Troubleshoot and repair network power supplies. Check voltage levels, reset circuit breakers, replace batteries, etc. Read and interpret node prints Assist in the installation of Status Monitoring Follow established engineering and technical processes and procedures Participate in advanced site surveys as required Provide technical support to other departments as required, including drop repair, plant construction, and headend/hub maintenance. Participate in “joint meets” with other Technicians to resolved customer escalated issues, either to identify the cause and refer the problem to the correct department, or to repair the problem. Maintain a daily log to track individual performance, maintain accountability, and use as reference/reporting tool. Respond to periodic requests to do a locate on any excavating activities found by other field technicians, supervisors, or when short term monitoring projects are required, when major excavation projects are underway in close proximity to the OSP. Respond to dispatches to any sites where underground plant damage occurs to aid in the investigation if one is initiated to determine why and/or how the OSP was damaged. Maintain positive relationships with other local utilities and government agencies in order to maintain open communication lines for speedy responsiveness to OSP related issues. Follow required procedures for establishing and maintaining a safe work zone Participate in on-call rotation schedule as needed (Market specific) Participate in Regional Market assignments Perform duties associated with construction of aerial and underground coaxial and fiber cable Splice coaxial and fiber cables Perform RF balancing of coaxial outside plant electronics Troubleshoot fiber optic equipment and fibers using state of the art test equipment Perform other duties as assigned
