About The Position

The Salvation Army, an Internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Camp Music Conservatory Senior Music and Arts Instructor for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK. This is a summer position at Camp Heart O’ Hills. This position summary should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary. The Senior Music and Arts Instructor position involves teaching or assisting classes in the instructor’s area of artistic discipline. Classes are organized into majors and minors, and include brass band, percussion, guitar, praise band, dance, theater, piano, or visual arts. Every student also takes chorus.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development principles.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Strong planning, development, and facilitation skills for youth programs.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to mentor students.
  • Knowledge of music education principles and the ability to teach music theory and classes in group or private settings.
  • One year of experience teaching in your artistic discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe and stimulating learning environment for students that facilitates personal, artistic, and spiritual growth.
  • Senior Music and Arts Instructors will either be the main instructor in a major or minor listed above or assist Studio Coordinators and conservatory directors.
  • In addition to the majors and minors, Senior Music and Arts instructors will teach private lessons. These lessons should focus on technique and repertoire. Private lessons should also be used to prepare a solo, as all students are required to perform a solo on a recital night.
  • Other responsibilities may include teaching a music theory class and participating in a chorus.
  • All staff, including Senior Music and Arts Instructors, are also on duty during staff meetings, Bible Studies, worship services, night programs, and Evensong.
  • Senior Music and Arts Instructors will be responsible for providing excellent instruction in their classes, creating lesson plans, scheduling private lessons, grading assignments, monitoring student’s progress, preparing students for recitals and performances, informing the Conservatory Director of any needed supplies or music, ensuring that the Conservatory equipment and instruments are well cared for, moving and setting up equipment as needed for rehearsals and performances, plan and implement at least one night program, etc.
  • Senior Music and Arts Instructors should maintain proper behavior in their students, follow appropriate disciplinary guidelines when necessary, highlight positive behavior in students, promote the participation and safety of students at all times, provide guidance and role-modeling to students both personally and artistically, ensure punctuality and responsibility of students, ensure compliance with camp rules and regulations, assist with program activities as assigned by the Conservatory Director, maintain an up-to-date incident report log, report any issues or concerns to the Conservatory Director, ensure that proper coverage is maintained over students at all times, keep personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection, be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Conservatory Director, etc.
