About The Position

EverGreene Architectural Arts is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Conservator to execute and oversee the treatment, documentation, and coordination of conservation projects across a wide range of historic materials and sites. As a Conservator, you will play a central role in the hands-on execution and supervision of conservation treatments, analysis, and documentation. You will apply advanced technical knowledge, scientific understanding, and refined hand skills to conserve a wide range of cultural heritage materials in both studio and field environments. You’ll work collaboratively with project managers, foremen, and technicians to deliver projects that meet technical, aesthetic, and safety standards, while supporting mentorship, quality assurance, and client communication. Responsibilities include conducting materials testing and research, preparing documentation, performing surveys and assessments, supporting site treatments, and drafting reports. This position combines hands-on conservation work with research, documentation, and quality control responsibilities. Our teams work on a range of project types ranging from smaller scale assessments and studio treatments to large-scale multi-year construction projects. We specialize in a range of materials including but not limited to decorative interiors and finishes, historic plaster, murals, indoor and outdoor sculptures and monuments, as well as building exteriors and industrial artefacts. Specialization in one of our main areas of expertise is required. This role is based in Brooklyn, NY and includes frequent travel.

Requirements

5+ years of professional experience in architectural or fine arts conservation.
Master’s degree in art conservation, historic preservation, or related discipline.
Professional Associate status with AIC or equivalent
Demonstrated hands-on conservation skills with strong analytical and material knowledge. Including material and chemical handling procedures.
Proven ability to lead small teams, develop appropriate and sensitive conservation treatments, and exercise sound technical judgment.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in photography, digital documentation, and technical report writing.
Artistic ability with a keen eye for color, texture, and detail.
Strong manual dexterity
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
Ability to work well within a team environment with fellow conservators, technicians, and trades people.
Comfortable working at heights, on scaffolding, and in varied environmental conditions.
OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain after hire). Additional safety certifications will be required after hiring.
Ability to travel to project sites anywhere in the United States.

Responsibilities

Conduct condition assessments, material analysis, research and conservation treatments on architectural surfaces, decorative finishes, artworks, and historic materials.
Develop, refine, and implement treatment methodologies independently and in coordination with senior conservation staff.
Provide technical oversight for Assistant Conservators, Technicians, and subcontractors.
Oversee preparation and organization of materials, tools, and workspaces for studio and field work.
Prepare artworks/architectural elements for disassembly, transport, and/or reinstallation. Following industry standards for the handling, packing, and transport of art and artefacts.
Ensure all work adheres to professional ethics, QA/QC protocols, safety regulations, and project specifications.
Execute project activities as directed by conservation leadership and project management, maintaining adherence to project scope, budget, and timeline.
Assist in leading small project teams, assigning tasks, and maintaining productivity and quality.
Coordinate and plan project staffing to align with required skills and overall project timelines.
Coordinate project travel arrangements in collaboration with the Project Administrator, as per company guidelines
Communicate regularly with conservation leadership and project managers to report progress and resolve field challenges.
Perform quality control oversight of technicians and subcontractors when assigned.
Assist in training and mentoring technicians and junior staff.
Capture and manage photographic documentation, ensuring accurate, organized, and complete visual records for each project.
Prepare detailed condition assessments, treatment records, and final reports for client deliverables.
Maintain accurate logs, materials lists, and technical notes in accordance with EverGreene’s documentation standards.
Follow and enforce EverGreene’s safety protocols, lead daily safety briefings, and ensure OSHA compliance on job sites and studio spaces.
Ensure all treatments and materials meet health and environmental safety standards.
Provide peer mentoring, demonstrations, and skill-sharing to support junior staff development.
Maintain clean, organized, and compliant work environments in both field and studio environments.
Receive mentorship and training from experienced conservators and craftspeople to expand technical and material knowledge.
Foster teamwork, professionalism, and a learning-oriented culture on-site and in the studio.
Contribute to departmental initiatives that strengthen conservation standards, workflows, and knowledge-sharing.
Provide technical input to Business Development to support accurate project estimating and procedures. This may include participation in preliminary site visits and client discussions.
Collaborate with internal and external marketing efforts through project documentation and technical summaries.
Support marketing and outreach efforts through project presentations and publications when requested.
Participation in external industry organizations such as American Institute for Conservation (AIC), Association of Preservation Technology (APT), or equivalents.
