About The Position

The Conservation Year-Round Crew Leader at Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) is responsible for leading a crew of up to six members in various environmental stewardship projects throughout the year. This role involves supervising crew members, managing project logistics, and ensuring safety in the field while fostering an inclusive and supportive crew culture. The position also includes administrative tasks and project management responsibilities, particularly during the winter months when logistical support and vehicle maintenance are key focuses.

Requirements

• Experience in environmental stewardship or related fields.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Ability to create an inclusive and safe working environment.
• Knowledge of proper tool use and maintenance.
• Experience in project management and logistics.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in forestry or invasive species management.
• Familiarity with outdoor recreation projects.
• Certifications in first aid or CPR.

Responsibilities

• Lead a crew of up to six members in completing forest health, water quality, and sustainable outdoor recreation projects during summer and fall.
• Create an inclusive crew culture that prioritizes physical and emotional safety.
• Supervise crew members, conducting check-ins and feedback meetings to help them set goals and assess growth.
• Instruct and support crew members on proper tool use, camp living, and personal care in the field.
• Engage with VYCC staff to set personal goals and demonstrate a growth mindset.
• Play a lead role in risk assessment and safety management in the field.
• Provide emergency response and communication during emergencies.
• Complete administrative and reporting tasks related to projects.
• Manage field logistics including vehicle maintenance checks and camp setup.
• Facilitate daily framing and debrief sessions with the crew to ensure project goals are met.
