About The Position

Engaged in all aspects of patient care at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) and Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC). Primary responsibilities include receiving emergent patients, diagnosis & medical and surgical treatment and care for hospitalized or permanent resident animals and keeping of medical records.

Requirements

Candidates must have a DVM or an equivalent degree.
Candidates should have successfully completed the National Board examination or its equivalent and a State Board examination or its equivalent if from the United States. Candidates must take and pass the Florida state boards at their own expense either prior to or within one month of starting the program.
DEA licensure and USDA accreditation are not required.
Technical proficiency in cloud-based collaboration platforms and tools (Google Suite, Office 365, DropBox, Zoom, etc.)

Responsibilities

Work with staff on weekly rotation between BWS & LMC to receive patients and provide care.
Be prepared for and attend patient and didactic rounds either in-person or virtually.
Necropsy deceased or euthanized patients as indicated.
Provide instruction to vet or vet tech externs & undergraduate interns as appropriate.
Maintain the medical records and drug logs.
Prepare Seminar series based on original research or case series (presenting at medical conferences may also satisfy this requirement).
Work with volunteers to carry out the missions of LMC & BWS.
Keeps current on the local and global conservation landscape, adapting to external challenges and seeking opportunities to bridge gaps between science and people.
Participate in research and help to procure grants as indicated.
Engage with guests as appropriate.
Rotate On-call duties for after-hours emergencies.
