The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for a Conservation Management Coordinator (Asst. Chief, Wildlife Management Operations Program) for our Wildlife Management Division. The mission of the Wildlife Management Division is to conserve wildlife species and habitats and to develop, implement, and facilitate sound wildlife management policies and programs to ensure the wise use of wildlife resources by North Carolina citizens. This position is critical to accomplishing the Commission’s goals of conserving fish and wildlife habitats and protecting, managing and enhancing wildlife populations statewide. This position administers the daily affairs of Wildlife Management Division Operations Program, including the direction of 31 professional biologists, and is responsible for the supervision of all program activities. The primary purpose of this position is the long and short-range planning, coordination, administration and supervision of the Wildlife Division’s Operations program as they pertain to statewide, regional, and national efforts. This position directs implementation of regional and statewide programs designed to meet the legislative mandate to manage wildlife for the citizens of the state. This includes, but is not limited to, development of project work plans, funding, budgets, species and habitat management plans, and other resource programs dealing with wildlife populations and the citizens of North Carolina. The position directly supervises regional wildlife supervisors, the Regulated Activities Supervisor, and the Wildlife Habitat Coordinator and oversees human resources management for permanent and temporary employees. This position serves as one of three Assistant Chiefs for the Wildlife Management Division. This employee may represent the Division and has decision-making authority when the Division Chief is unavailable. Many of these activities require coordination with other federal, state and private agencies and groups and with other divisions within the Commission. This position advises and works closely with Division, Agency and Commission leadership to accomplish agency strategic goals and objectives of the Agency and the Wildlife Management Division. The position provides leadership, guidance and support in the organization and execution of program activities. Responsibilities include developing and tracking success for strategic goals related to private land conservation initiatives, attending joint meetings with other agency and division staff members, helping to plan and monitor ongoing projects, providing technical expertise relative to overall activities, conducting regular section/project meetings to assess program status and reviewing monthly and quarterly activity and progress reports. Assesses program effectiveness and provides guidance and support to improve effectiveness and efficiency. A Monday-Friday schedule is associated with this position which involves working 40 hours per week. This position is eligible for teleworking under the agency’s current telework policy of one day per week as approved by management. This position has statewide responsibilities. Assignments, work and projects require monthly travel, and occasional travel outside NC. This position is based in the WRC Headquarters in Raleigh, NC (Wake Co.).
