About The Position

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Conservation Aide will perform routine data gathering and project implementation duties in support of the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) district’s programs to inform and educate the public about efficient water use and conservation while learning and applying conservation program practices and techniques. Conservation Aide is a paraprofessional class in the conservation program job family. Initially employees will receive training in basic conservation program requirements, practices and techniques while performing routine conservation project and water audit, assists in conducting water waste investigations and enforcing city and county water waste ordinances. As experience and competencies are gained, their duties gradually become broader and are performed with greater independence. Protecting Southern Nevada’s Water Through Conservation and Compliance The Water Use Compliance Team plays a key role in protecting Southern Nevada’s most critical resource—water. The team supports regional conservation efforts through water conservation enforcement, education, and outreach, helping ensure compliance with local water-use regulations. By working with residents and businesses to address water waste and promote responsible water management, the team helps safeguard the region’s long-term water sustainability.

Requirements

  • High school or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of office or field experience that demonstrates the ability to learn and apply conservation programs, requirements, and techniques, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic data gathering techniques; principles and practices of business communication.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive customer issues and situations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with water conservation concepts: practices, techniques and products used by SNWA in water conservation programs.
  • Knowledge of interior plumbing fixtures, basic irrigation systems and landscaping techniques.
  • Knowledge of District and local laws, regulations, and programs applicable to water conservation.

Responsibilities

  • With direction, assists in collecting, compiling, and displaying water conservation data.
  • Perform assigned research to gather necessary information for designing and implementing water conservation techniques.
  • Collect data from various sources and assists in monitoring actual conservation results following program implementation.
  • Carry out routine administrative assignments associated with the development and implementation of conservation programs and projects.
  • Research and study conservation information and materials to learn conservation techniques and practices.
  • Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive customer issues and situations; maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Maintain records, files, and supplies of materials.
  • Act as backup to other Conservation staff, as needed.
