Connections Strategist (Account Director)

WPP PLCNew York, NY
37dHybrid

About The Position

Axicom is a specialized PR and integrated marketing communications agency at the intersection of AI and technology - where the future is being built. As part of Burson and WPP, we combine the agility and expertise of a specialist technology firm with the resources and reach of a global powerhouse. We're intrapreneurs: a small, nimble team inside a powerful international network, and that's exactly how we like it. We're looking for an experienced (6-8 years) Connections Strategist to join our lean Strategy team. You're a creative, insights-driven strategist adept at developing strong cross-channel strategies (paid, owned, earned) that bring creative storytelling to life. As the second member of our lean, dynamic strategy team, an entrepreneurial spirit is key. We're looking for someone eager to 'color outside the lines,' passionately pursuing great work and contributing directly to business growth.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of progressive experience in integrated, media, or digital strategy, with a proven track record of successful multi-channel campaigns and calculated bravery.
  • Deep understanding of the paid, owned, and earned media ecosystem, leveraging insights from PR and paid media to drive big ideas and a Futurist, not Follower approach.
  • Exceptional strategic and analytical skills, adept at translating abstract concepts into concrete plans and making data-driven recommendations.
  • Excellent communicator and natural collaborator, capable of building strong relationships and adapting messages for diverse audiences.
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments, expertly managing multiple projects simultaneously, and driven by a passion for creativity and innovation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specific marketing technology platforms (e.g., ad tech, social listening tools, content management systems).
  • Experience working with diverse client portfolios or brands.
  • Experience mentoring junior strategists, instilling in them a mindset of calculated bravery and future-forward thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Integrated Strategy Development: You'll lead the charge in developing comprehensive connection strategies. Think big: taking a core creative idea and seamlessly integrating it across paid, owned, and earned media (digital ads, social, content, PR, influencers, SEO) - often with a dose of calculated bravery to explore new frontiers.
  • Creative Amplifier: Work hand-in-hand with creative teams from concept to launch. Your mission? Ensure our "big ideas" aren't just impactful, but also perfectly adapted and optimized for maximum resonance in every channel. You'll help architect ideas built for multi-channel success, embodying that Futurist, not Follower mindset.
  • Cultural & Media Navigator: You're the go-to expert on current media trends, platform algorithms, emerging tech, and how audiences consume content. Your deep dive into the broader cultural landscape will inform our strategies, ensuring our ideas grab attention and stay ahead of the curve.
  • Insight Hunter: You love digging into audience data and exploring the internet for fresh insights that spark creative genius. You'll leverage research and cultural cues to pinpoint key audience segments, understand their motivations, and nail the most effective channels and messaging to truly engage them.
  • Channel Whisperer: You'll advise on best practices for content formats, distribution tactics, and engagement strategies, custom-tailored for each platform. You're a pro in owned social or earned PR media, and you know your way around the paid media space, always seeking innovative ways to optimize performance.
  • Performance Driver: Partner with our analytics teams to define KPIs, track campaign performance, and offer strategic recommendations for continuous optimization and future planning. Your insights will fuel our next acts of calculated bravery.
  • Collaboration Catalyst: You're the central hub, connecting creative, media planning, PR, social, and analytics teams. You'll foster a cohesive, integrated approach to campaign development, even working with external agencies to ensure ideas flow perfectly to the right audiences.
  • Communication & Concept Ideator: You can articulate complex strategies clearly and persuasively to anyone, from internal teams to clients. You're also a natural at facilitating creative brainstorms, cultivating an environment where ideas flourish and are strategically shaped, always encouraging that future-forward thinking.
