The Connection Engineer position at SteelFab, Inc. involves designing structural steel bolted and welded connections that can withstand various loadings, including gravity, wind, and seismic forces. This role is critical in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of steel constructions. The engineer will work under the guidance of the Executive Vice President of Engineering, contributing to the overall design and engineering processes within the company. The position requires a thorough understanding of structural engineering principles and the ability to apply them in practical scenarios. In this role, the engineer will review and evaluate contract structural and architectural documents to ascertain design requirements. They will analyze different load cases and combinations to ensure that the connections designed are adequate for the intended use. The engineer will also evaluate various connection options, focusing on structural adequacy, cost-effectiveness, and ease of construction. This includes designing miscellaneous components such as stairs, rails, and ladders, as well as high-strength bolted and welded connections. The Connection Engineer will utilize structural analysis software, such as RAM, Risa, and Bentley Structural, to analyze joints and develop customized design software modules using tools like Excel, Visual Basic, and C++. Coordination with 3D modeling software, including Tekla Structures and Revit, is also a key aspect of the job. The engineer will provide engineering support for shop fabrication processes and attend design progress meetings to ensure effective communication and coordination with general contractors, architects, and structural engineers of record. Limited travel may be required for this position, allowing the engineer to engage directly with project stakeholders and site conditions.
