About The Position

This position is a bargaining unit–represented position. We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Conformal Coating Specialist to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for applying conformal coatings to electronic assemblies and printed circuit boards (PCBs) to protect products from environmental damage. The ideal candidate demonstrates precision, strong attention to detail, and familiarity with coating materials and application techniques. On-the-job training will be provided.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Familiarity with conformal coating materials such as acrylic, silicone, urethane, and epoxies.
  • Familiarity with coating application equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to perform detailed work under magnification when required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and handle small components with precision.
  • Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection practices.
  • Ability to obtain IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 certifications on the first attempt or within two attempts.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and quality-focused workmanship.
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to coating materials, solvents, fumes, and vapors associated with conformal coating application and compound mixing, while adhering to established safety and PPE protocols.
  • Ability to safely wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, during spray application and coating processes, in accordance with safety and fit-testing requirements.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Prior experience with spraying, painting, or coating processes (e.g., nail technician, house painting, automotive paint/body shop experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electronics manufacturing or high-tech production environments.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly, hand soldering, and self-inspection.
  • IPC-A-610, IPC -620, and/or IPC J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Completion of a certified technical or vocational training program.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Proven experience applying conformal coatings in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve process issues.

Responsibilities

  • Train on and perform the application of conformal coatings to electronic assemblies and PCBs using methods such as spraying, brushing, and automated application systems.
  • Inspect and prepare surfaces prior to coating application, ensuring cleanliness and proper adhesion.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain coating equipment including spray booths, curing ovens, and inspection tools.
  • Perform visual and functional inspections to verify coating thickness, coverage, adhesion, and overall quality.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve coating defects and process issues.
  • Accurately document process steps, inspections, and results as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures, ESD controls, and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve coating processes and product quality.
  • Obtain and maintain IPC-A-610 and/or IPC J-STD-001 certification.
  • Obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
