About The Position

NextGen is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Configuration Manager to join our team in support of critical U.S. Army defense missions. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in configuration management processes, standards, and tools to ensure rigorous baseline control, traceability, change management, and configuration integrity across complex battlefield and mission-critical systems. This role is designed for a seasoned Configuration Manager who excels at applying traditional CM disciplines to the unique demands of Army contract environments where compliance and collaboration are key evaluation factors. The successful candidate will maintain configuration integrity across hardware, firmware, and documentation baselines for secure, high-stakes applications, enabling seamless integration of capabilities into operational Army systems.

Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance (minimum); eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance as required by the contract. U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related technical field. (Years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree).
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with DoD regulations, including DFARS 252.227-7013 (Rights in Technical Data), ITAR/EAR compliance, and Army-specific directives (e.g., AR 70-1 for Acquisition Policy or AR 25-1 for Information Management).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CM tools and software such as Jira and Microsoft tools and Apps. Experience with integration, configuration, and analysis of military systems - software and hardware
  • Process Expertise: Demonstrated experience in key CM activities, including baseline management, change control (e.g., via Configuration Control Boards/CCBs), configuration audits (Functional Configuration Audit/FCA and Physical Configuration Audit/PCA), version control, and release management.
  • Soft Skills: Detail oriented, strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, classified environment. Excellent written and verbal communication for interfacing with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineers, program managers, government POCs).

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized Experience: Exposure to Army programs (e.g., C5ISR, aviation, ground systems, or cyber-related contracts). Experience in Agile/DevOps environments, including CI/CD pipelines integrated with CM tools, or supporting rapid prototyping/experimentation.
  • Leadership and Soft Skills: Experience leading CM teams or mentoring juniors; proven track record of successful CM implementations that reduced risks or improved efficiency in DoD projects. Strong interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement, including briefings to senior Army officials or contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Configuration Management Plan (CMP) and associated processes in compliance with DoD and Army standards, including ANSI/EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61A, and applicable contract requirements
  • Establish and control functional, allocated, and product baselines for hardware, firmware, software, and technical documentation throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Ensuring compliance with DoD and Army standards (e.g., ANSI/EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61A, DFARS technical data rights) while supporting rapid prototyping, experimentation, and fielding of mission-critical capabilities.
  • Collaborating closely with software developers, systems engineers, and Army program offices to translate technical requirements into controlled, auditable configurations that support mission success.
  • Maintain configuration status accounting records, including as-designed/as-built documentation, version control logs, traceability matrices, and configuration reports for program leadership and government stakeholders.
  • Manage release and delivery of configuration-controlled items, ensuring proper versioning, labeling, archiving, and distribution in accordance with contract deliverables and CDRL requirements.
  • Support rapid prototyping, experimentation, and fielding events by maintaining configuration control during iterative development, testing, and integration phases.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance CM efficiency, reduce risks, and align with evolving Army modernization priorities (e.g., digital engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering).
  • Conduct Functional Configuration Audits (FCAs) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCAs) to ensure implemented system conforms to approved specifications and documentation.
  • Manage and maintain the program's CM tool suite for software, hardware, and all associated documentation.
