About the position

This is a 6.5 hour per day, Conditional Paraeducator position at Kamiak High School for the 2024-25 school year. Anticipated start date will be as soon as possible. This position does not include Medical and Dental benefits. Hours for this position are 7:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a student.
  • Accompany student to classes throughout the building, including lunch, restroom, PE, and swimming.
  • Assist the student with specialized curriculum.
  • Encourage and teach use of technology for assignment completion.
  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Implement various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for students.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs.
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess.
  • Participate in meetings and training.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite.

Requirements

  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, or received a passing score on PESB approved assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Job related experience desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
