POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a hands-on Concrete Research Lab Intern to support laboratory research initiatives and assist lab technicians in daily operations. The intern will gain practical experience in materials testing and experimental studies while contributing to research efforts aimed at advancing concrete technology and material performance. This role begins with learning fundamental laboratory procedures alongside experienced lab technicians and gradually progresses toward independent contributions in structured research studies.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of study in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Materials), Materials Science, Concrete Management or a related field by the start of the internship
  • Strong interest in the cement and concrete industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on, industrial laboratory environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures accurately

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a materials laboratory preferred
  • Exposure to concrete or cement testing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist lab technicians with daily laboratory operations and material testing activities
  • Learn and perform foundational lab procedures as part of technical skill development
  • Support structured research studies, including one or more of the following: ReAct Cement Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) Study Analyze relationships between MOE and other material properties Support data collection and interpretation to evaluate structural implications Ideal for Civil or Structural Engineering students interested in material behavior
  • ReAct Cement Field Robustness Study Conduct trial batching of ReAct Cement concrete Intentionally introduce controlled defects to evaluate material robustness Assess real-world performance under varying conditions
  • ASR Methodology Study Investigate effects of different crushing methods on Borosilicate glass Contribute to structured testing of ASR impacts on ReAct Blend and cement systems
  • Document experimental results and maintain accurate laboratory records
  • Collaborate with engineering and research teams to support technical objectives
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment
