About The Position

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Prep Foreman to join our team. This individual will perform general form carpentry, including building concrete forms and temporary structures, based on sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions. The Prep Foreman will also be responsible for inspecting the condition of the grade, formwork, and steel placement to ensure compliance with project specifications before concrete placement. In addition to hands-on work, the Prep Foreman will supervise a crew of operators and laborers, oversee equipment use and maintenance, manage daily production goals, and maintain schedule requirements. This role works closely with Hi-Way’s job-site leadership to review plans, procedures, and progress, ensuring quality and efficiency across the board. This position may require travel to job sites in Nashville, TN; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; and Columbia, SC, with up to 100% travel depending on project needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy/highway or airfield construction projects, or related job-site management experience (preferred).
  • Safety and OSHA certifications or relevant safety training (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to focus on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% overnight to job sites.
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
  • Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience leading or contributing to a concrete paving crew at airfields or airports (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform general form carpentry, including building concrete forms and temporary structures.
  • Interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, and verbal instructions.
  • Inspect the condition of subgrade, formwork, and steel placement to ensure compliance with project specifications before concrete placement.
  • Ensure all preparatory work meets FAA, USACE, and applicable DOT standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a crew of laborers and equipment operators.
  • Help coordinate and implement fixed-form paving operations.
  • Monitor and manage the use, condition, and maintenance of tools and equipment on-site.
  • Track and maintain daily production goals, adjusting as needed to meet schedule requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with job-site leadership to review plans, procedures, and project progress.
  • Champion safety on the job site, ensuring compliance with safety standards and promoting a safe work environment.
