About The Position

The NRMCA Concrete Laboratory Technician supports industry-leading research, technical service, and performance evaluation of concrete materials and systems. This role is responsible for conducting laboratory testing with precision, producing laboratory concrete batches and performance evaluation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and committed to advancing concrete technology and best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in concrete or construction materials testing
  • Familiarity with ASTM, ACI, and AASHTO standards preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to follow standardized procedures consistently
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing on concrete, aggregates, cement, and supplementary cementitious materials
  • Conduct standard tests including:
  • Compressive strength
  • Slump, air content, and unit weight
  • Length Change (drying shrinkage and ASR Testing)
  • Permeability
  • Aggregate gradation, specific gravity, and absorption
  • Execute testing in accordance with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, and NRMCA procedures
  • Accurately record, analyze, and report test data
  • Maintain organized laboratory records and databases
  • Prepare summaries and reports to support internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with trial batching
  • Support research initiatives, including evaluation of new materials and technologies
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
  • Ensure laboratory organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness
  • Adhere to all safety policies and PPE requirements
  • Support quality assurance and accreditation programs (e.g., AMRL, CCRL)
