About The Position

The Juvenile Department’s Conciliation Services is seeking a Bilingual Conciliation Counselor who is self-motivated, adaptable, and service-oriented as we work towards our mission to protect the public by reducing delinquency and restoring victims and the community by holding youth accountable. The Conciliation Counselor provides court ordered and voluntary mediation services to parties involved in domestic relations disputes, provide counseling and classes to couples experiencing relationship or post-separation difficulties and deliver presentations regarding services to the community and to clients. Conciliation Services is housed within the Washington County Juvenile Services department and provides Mediation and Conciliation Services to assist parents in dispute about custody and/ or parenting time. Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or related field and one (1) year of paid casework or clinical experience; OR Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or related field and one (1) year of graduate-level training in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or related field, plus two (2) years of paid casework or clinical experience; OR Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or related field plus three (3) years of paid casework or clinical experience.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish, demonstrated by passing written and oral proficiency tests.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

  • Familiar with domestic relations, child welfare laws, the operation of courts and how to work effectively within that setting.
  • Can mediate and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Works accurately and independently under pressure and within time constraints.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and neutrality, while managing high conflict relationships.
  • Able to successfully engage with upset or challenging clients on a semi-frequent basis and assess for safety in service delivery.
