About The Position

ASARCO LLC is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest Copper producers, Grupo Mexico, which ranks third in the United States in Copper production. ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refinery of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning across 4 sites in Arizona. We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management at ASARCO & Grupo Mexico.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis.
  • Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.
  • Must be majoring in Chemical Engineering, Physicists, Metallurgy, Geology, or related discipline.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
  • Time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and make recommendations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • English language fluency.
  • At least CEFR B2 - Upper Intermediate: Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
  • Candidates must possess a current and valid driver's license.
  • Offers of employment are contingent upon a successful criminal background check and pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Modeling using excel or other software in a unit of operation.
  • Identify areas of opportunity in processing equipment.
  • Generating technical reports from documentation sources and statistical analysis.
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
