About The Position

The Concealed Handgun/Extra Duty Technician position at El Paso County is responsible for assisting the Concealed Handgun/Extra Duty Supervisor in managing the scheduling and processing of concealed handgun permits. This role involves direct communication with the public regarding state statutes and laws governing firearms, ensuring compliance and accuracy in the application process. The position is essential for public safety and requires in-person attendance, with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in an office environment.
• Knowledge of law enforcement practices and criminal law preferred.
• Strong communication and public speaking skills.
• Ability to type 40 words per minute and enter data accurately.
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Strong analytic and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience scheduling and coordinating multiple tasks.
• Colorado Notary Public certification highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Concealed Handgun/Extra Duty Supervisor in scheduling and processing concealed handgun applications.
• Check for accuracy of required documentation and photographs.
• Photograph and fingerprint applicants as necessary.
• Conduct criminal background checks on all applicants.
• Scan and file applicant records into the appropriate area.
• Respond to public inquiries via email, telephone, and in person.
• Communicate with the public and other agencies regarding firearms laws.
• Sort and route incoming mail to appropriate areas.
• Assist with training new CHP/Extra Duty Technicians and volunteers as needed.
• Answer inquiries about the Extra Duty Program.
• Perform other duties as required.
