About The Position

The expected hiring range for this position is: $63,200.00-$89,867.00. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The Computing / IT Associate II organizationally reports to the South Dakota IT Group Manager and works closely with the Fermilab South Dakota Services Division (SDSD), the LBNF/DUNE Project, and technical staff supporting operations at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF). Under limited direction, this position is responsible for providing general IT and computing support services with a focus on systems, networking, and infrastructure in support of the DUNE experiment. This position is based in Lead, South Dakota. Relocation assistance is provided. What your day-to-day as a Computing / IT Associate II at Fermilab will look like: Respond to user requests across multiple applications, systems, networks, and telecommunications services Provide primary general IT support with emphasis on network and systems infrastructure Support and maintain laboratory services including authentication services, email and messaging systems, audio/video conferencing, application services, computer security, and central web hosting Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain systems in accordance with established IT policies and procedures Monitor systems and notify appropriate personnel of issues impacting performance, availability, or security Assist in the development and maintenance of documentation for management services and user guidance Conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures Communicate and coordinate with technical personnel, users, and project staff, including individuals from non-computing disciplines and mid-level management Provide consultation and technical guidance to users and supporting services as needed Move between multiple on-site locations, including underground facilities, to perform assigned duties Work under minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with multiple teams Abide by, and be responsible for, performing all duties in accordance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong customer service mindset with a passion for technology and helping users
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Ability to work in varied environments, including underground locations with limited natural light
  • Ability to wear and operate required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with networking equipment and solid knowledge of IP networking
  • Experience installing network cabling (fiber and copper)
  • Experience installing, supporting, and troubleshooting desktop operating systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to take responsibility for small- to medium-scale projects
  • Cisco technical certifications (desirable)
  • Experience with scripting languages (desirable)
