The largest of Duke Health's four hospitals with 1062 patient beds, it features comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more.COMPUTERIZED EKG SYSTEM TECH Computerized EKG TechSchedule/Shift: 1 day a week at home and every 4th weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from home. flexible 7a - 3:30pm, can be adjusted later to fit your schedule.   General Description of the Job Class   Support Cardiology by maintaining patient information using the computerized ECG system. Coordinate and participate in a variety of duties involved in the operation to provide detailed analysis of cardiac functions in the electrocardiogram.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of two year experience as an ECG Technician II or related ECG experience with recognized competence.
  • Ability to use computer equipment to enter data into an ECG database.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Working knowledge of the relevant anatomy and physiology integral to the generation and recording of the ECG.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask and to accept responsibility for quality and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred successful completion: 1) Basic 12-Lead class; 2) Dysrhythmia class; 3) Pacemaker class; and 4) National ECG Certification

Responsibilities

  • Operate data processing equipment to enter and retrieve a variety of patient information and physicians' reports; edit data to insure consistency and accuracy; abstract, classify and code data.
  • Interact with hospital information systems and enter confirmed ECGs into that system.
  • Prepare duplicates of ECG tracings and physician reports; interface with computer and ECG database to locate and retrieve lost information. Retrieve and refile ECGs/folders.
  • Perform routine equipment checks, makes minor repairs to correct malfunctions; report system malfunctions to appropriate service personnel.
  • Assist in the compilation and distribution of ECG tracings, reports and other data as required; using copier and fax technologies (both paper and electronic), relay messages to technical staff and assist in the resolution of problems.
  • Prepare clinical and research information; using copier and fax technologies (both paper and electronic).
  • Perform initial reading of ECG and review ECGs with attending physician.
  • Recognize errors involved with ECG recording, analysis and storage, including misidentified patients, incorrect lead placement, including limb lead reversal, incorrect patient ages, diagnosis, and reason for ECG.
  • Provide a preliminary diagnostic report to physician and final preliminary tracing interpretation.
  • Recommend and implement new standards, procedures and techniques to improve existing diagnostic methods.
  • Maintain liaison with physicians, research personnel and staff to resolve problems and to advise concerning ECG procedures, techniques and equipment.
  • Interface with departmental personnel to solve problems concerning patient care, departmental policy and treatment procedures relating to electrocardiogram.
  • Assist in the training of new personnel.
  • Perform other duties as requested
