Roca Robotics is a specialized robotics and computer vision team within TCGplayer, focused on automating the most complex, manual segments of the collectibles lifecycle. Roca builds robotic sorting systems that use advanced computer vision algorithms to accurately identify, categorize, and process trading cards at high speed and volume. These systems directly power TCGplayer’s marketplace operations and seller services, enabling faster processing, improved accuracy, and an elevated experience for our passionate community. As a Computer Vision Data Engineer, you will build and support the critical software and data systems powering our robotic platforms. Your work will span recognition software for new trading card games, data pipelines that drive sorting workflows, and production systems operating at scale. This role uniquely combines data and software engineering with practical computer vision application in robotics systems that support small businesses and local hobby shops every day!

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software or data engineering experience in production environments and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience applying computer vision algorithms to real-world products or systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, and SQL, with a track record of writing maintainable, production-ready code and working with OpenCV and custom computer vision solutions.
  • Experience supporting AWS resources and operating within Linux-based environments.
  • Knowledge of core networking concepts including connectivity, security, and basic system troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly while collaborating with diverse partners across the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with robotics, 3D printers and/or 3D printer software
  • Experience with camera hardware and image acquisition pipelines
  • Background in AI/ML for image processing and recognition

Responsibilities

  • Extend the capabilities of existing Roca Robotics software to identify and process new trading card games and diverse card types.
  • Build and maintain automated ETL pipelines to ensure the seamless flow of high-volume card catalog data.
  • Handle database administration and scalable cloud storage solutions for our robotics infrastructure.
  • Integrate new card data sources to broaden the sorting and recognition capabilities of our robotic systems.
  • Deploy automated testing frameworks across the recognition pipeline to ensure high accuracy and reliability at scale.
  • Share technical findings and methodologies through clear documentation to further knowledge exchange across the team.
