The Computer Systems Support Technician position at the City of Carson involves a variety of technical duties under the direction of the Information Technology Manager. The role primarily focuses on the setup, operation, and maintenance of audio-visual systems for City Council meetings and other public events. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for programming and maintaining computer systems, ensuring that all technology functions efficiently and effectively. This position requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, as well as a commitment to providing excellent support to end users and city personnel. In this role, the technician will provide technical support to end users, manage the Computer Lab, and maintain the City Council's audio-visual systems. Responsibilities include the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of city software and hardware, as well as modifying existing systems to enhance efficiency. The technician will communicate with vendors and city personnel to exchange technical information and procure necessary equipment. Furthermore, the technician will prepare various internal reports, documentation, and specifications related to the city's computer systems, ensuring that all records are accurate and up-to-date. The technician will also be involved in designing and installing stored procedures, creating reports, statistical analyses, charts, and graphs. The role requires the installation, modification, testing, and repair of equipment such as computers, network equipment, cables, printers, and optical scanners. Staying current with computer equipment, systems, and technologies is essential, and the technician will attend meetings and seminars to enhance their knowledge. Additionally, the technician will provide technical expertise and recommendations regarding the selection, repair, and installation of computers and related equipment, while also documenting and formalizing standards and procedures for interfacing computers and peripheral equipment. Training and providing work direction to others may also be part of the responsibilities.
