About The Position

The Senior Computer Support Specialist is responsible for providing front-line technical support and leading IT assistance to various end users within a multi-vendor, multi-platform network environment. This role involves advanced technical work related to the installation, maintenance, operation, and administration of the City's computer systems and business applications, particularly for the police and fire departments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or valid equivalent.
  • Three years of verifiable previous work experience involving computer operating systems, system administration, personal computer repair/maintenance, and user support.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain one of the following certificates within six months of employment: Comp TIA A+, Comp TIA Network +, Comp TIA Security +, or Microsoft Technology Associate certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain NCIC/FCIC certification through the state of Florida.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Technology.
  • Previous experience working in public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance, training, and assistance to employees; organize, prioritize, and coordinate work; monitor status of work in progress.
  • Coordinate the Help Desk work order process from inception to resolution; triage and classify work orders according to problem type and priority.
  • Monitor local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) resources; verify that enterprise document imaging services are online.
  • Perform website administration; publish new content and updates on the website; collect and analyze site activity data.
  • Coordinate purchase and implementation of technology products; evaluate new technologies and products for possible purchase.
  • Provide general support for the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department; monitor overall status of Help Desk and provide status reports to management.
  • Perform general technical support tasks; install, configure, or upgrade equipment hardware, peripheral equipment, and software programs.
  • Provide information, training, assistance, and technical support to users regarding computer operations, procedures, problems, software applications, and maintenance.
  • Work with subject matter experts and third-parties to ensure optimal performance of line of business applications and systems.
  • Compile or monitor administrative and/or statistical data; analyze data and identify trends; summarize data and prepare reports.
