The Computer Specialist (Software) I-IV position at MTA Headquarters involves highly technical or supervisory responsibilities for the design, implementation, enhancement, maintenance, and analysis of software systems. The role encompasses four assignment levels, each differing in complexity and supervision requirements. The selected candidate will be appointed to the MaBSTOA payroll and will work in the Transportation IT Products department under the supervision of the Director of Product Development.   • Design, implement, enhance, and maintain Database Management Systems, Operating Systems, or Data Communications Systems.
  • Supervise units engaged in systems development work of varying difficulty.
  • Serve as project leader in multi-programming computer systems.
  • Coordinate and direct data processing projects.
  • Perform duties of the supervisor in their absence.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with 24 semester credits in computer science or a related field and two years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with college education substituting for up to two years of required experience.
  • At least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
  • A master's degree in computer science or a related field may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Experience in data administration, database management systems, operating systems, and data communications systems.
