This position is part of the Office of Science - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Computer Scientist, you will serve as a scientific authority and expert in high performance computational science, which encompasses the diverse areas of physical sciences, applied mathematics and computer science; data management and policies; machine learning and artificial intelligence, and advanced scientific computing research facilities.

  • Organize, participate in, or lead workshops and program reviews to advance programmatic interests, strategic planning, and oversight.
  • Evaluate requirements of advanced computational researchers for current and next generation high performance leadership computing capabilities and manage the transition of R&D in these areas into pre-production and production.
  • Manage transition of advanced research into the facility to support scientific disciplines.
  • Prepare, justify, and support the portion of the Office's budget relating to computer and computational science research.
  • Develop, coordinate, and organize resource allocations for assigned programs.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
  • At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
  • Must submit college transcripts.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service.
  • Experience in developing funding allocations for scientific or technology programs.
  • Experience in developing research computing systems for an organization.
  • Experience in establishing scientific methods and techniques in research computing.
