About The Position

As a Computer Science Software Engineer, you will support our Maritime Engineering, Technology & Sustainment (METS) Business Unit which is responsible for industry-leading capabilities in naval ship and submarine design, systems and engineering services, and production support, logistics and in-service sustainment. This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/transfer an active DoD Secret security clearance. This position complements Serco's other engineering capabilities in shipboard, shore and systems installation and upgrade services to the Navy. You will join a team that is responsible for a multitude of various design efforts using software development tools which will include different US Navy Programs and contracts, as well as commercial vessels and systems. In your role, you will be utilizing a variety of different tools and software programs possibly involving disparate databases and software applications. You will also assist in the preparation of reports to describe your analysis and design efforts and being responsible for summarizing results for customers and higher authorities. This is an exciting hybrid opportunity to join a highly engaged and collaborative engineering team.

Requirements

  • A United States citizenship and able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Computer Science or similar discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying supervised and unsupervised learning models (regression, classification, clustering, NLP, time-series forecasting).
  • Experience within an Agile (Kanban, Scrum) environment.
  • Experience with automated version control/configuration management and CI/CD pipelines using modern DevOps tools (Git, JIRA, etc).
  • To be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • To be self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
  • A strong customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to travel 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science from an accredited University.
  • Solid foundation in statistical inference, hypothesis testing, experimental design (A/B testing), and Bayesian methods.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for data science workloads, including data pipelines, model training, and deployment.
  • Experience developing and applying LLMs (e.g. BERT, GPT) for engineering processes and design.
  • Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras) and practical experience applying them to real-world problems.
  • Additional programming languages: C++, MATLAB.
  • Experience with MS Power Platform.
  • Web: HTML, browser (e.g., Chrome) based GUI development.
  • Modeling and simulation experience.
  • Experience with SysML.
  • HPC experience.
  • Ontology development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with analysis and model construction using AI and/or machine learning.
  • Develop code in Python (XML, NetworkX, Matplotlib, Spacy, NLTK, pandas, parquet, scikit-learn, seaborn, matplotlib, NumPy).
  • Build design concepts and detail designs.
  • Perform development and application of NLP and ML.
  • Perform DB development including access controls to controlled access sites.
  • Database programming in SQL/XML and LINQ.
