About The Position

Computer Operator is responsible for the overall monitoring and health of the Central Data Center as well as the West Orange data center. They are responsible for the creation of the Active Directory accounts during their shift in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Computer Operators monitor multi-technology computing platforms, interfaces and servers. They are responsible for ensuring a stable operating environment and attaining maximum utilization of system facilities. Troubleshoots and restores routine technical service and peripheral equipment. Schedules and performs production runs. Provides first level support to the Service Desk as needed, and performs triaging of calls to administrators within the Server, Messaging, Network, Backup, San, and UNIX teams to ensure the appropriate person is contacted only on an as needed basis.

Requirements

  • A High school diploma required.
  • Requires resourcefulness to address issues using judgement and prioritization of critical issues.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Data Center Operations and/or IT experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend & participate in meetings with Manager and all other areas of RWJBH.
  • Attend mandatory meetings onsite or if given the option via phone during their shift or when not scheduled to work.
  • Communicate effectively to all Department & user personnel on progress of problem.
  • Keep user informed if resolution takes longer than agreed timeframe & responds to user queries about problems.
  • Provide updates to users on status of requests submitted when asked by users.
  • Communicate effectively with Manager, Director, the user community, cross functional team leads / team members, clients, vendors, etc. regarding the status during system downtimes and unusual circumstances.
  • Completes special projects assigned by the Manager in a professional manner.
  • Completes projects according to established guidelines and timeframes of the request.
  • Uses effective time management skills to complete a given task without jeopardizing normal daily work requirements.
  • Takes the initiative to follow up with Management regarding any suggestions or alternative ways to complete a project.
  • Control access of vendors and outside employees needing to enter the data center.
  • Check to see if they are expected, signed in and out and notify manager.
  • Ensure all unauthorized visitors are denied access.
  • Demonstrates ownership by taking the initiative to bring about positive results.
  • Takes the initiative to follow through with a plan or task without being asked by others.
  • Disable users when requested by management or termination process.
  • Document, create and maintain user accounts and logins for network users, email and other Active Directory Applications spanning across the RWJBarnabas Health system.
  • Grant and assign appropriate permissions to Shared directories.
  • Document all permission changes within the tracking system and Active Directory when appropriate.
  • If the incoming shift does not arrive on time, have the ability to remain at work.
  • Logs, sends and receives off site tapes on an as needed basis.
  • Monitors the operations mailbox, alerting systems, interfaces, and environmental systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Responds and addresses emails, requests, and alerts based on departmental policy.
  • Perform necessary actions related to each of the 30 day account expiration lists and emails received, follow-up as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots error conditions and works with analysts and vendors when necessary.
  • Analyzes and resolves hardware / software / problems such as operational discrepancies, job aborts, and network issues.
  • Refers problems to appropriate person when operator's best efforts cannot resolve and escalate as appropriate.
  • Acts on high priority tickets immediately and escalates as needed.
  • Perform receiving duties for deliveries for operations and other teams.
  • Operates loading dock, sign for deliveries and communicates with other teams on the status of the delivery.
  • Performs walk thru of the data center, UPS room and transformer room on each shift.
  • Opens tickets for appropriate teams for any alerts discovered and escalates any major issue to manager.
  • Provide Phone Support/ helpdesk functions.
  • Works with other IT teams when needed.
  • Acts as first level support and escalate issues to appropriate teams.
  • Run jobs/ processes in accordance with procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read, understand and follow departmental documentation before asking for assistance.
  • Publish Daily Morning Report.
  • Attend morning call.
  • Review morning report and first level support issues on call.
  • Possess the ability to prioritize shift responsibilities.
