About The Position

Penn State is searching for a full time Computer Lab Support Technician - Grade 6 to join the team. Duties include: Respond to requests for assistance regarding the operation of campus computers designated for student use Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues such as hardware failure, peripheral equipment failure, unresponsive computers, error messages, network disconnection, etc. Use standard diagnostic procedures to identify specific component failures Set-up or replace hardware such as hard drives, monitors, keyboards, physical connections, etc. For new or existing computers Contact vendors to replace hardware as needed Set-up new and existing computers, printers, etc. with predetermined software Monitor printers and respond to user print errors Perform routine maintenance such as replace toner, clear paper jams and check physical connections Identify and resolve hardware issues such fuser and roller malfunctions Set up printers and scanners as needed Receive telephone calls from classrooms and computer labs; assist with routine issues Transfer unresolved issues to the appropriate support individuals such as classroom technicians, OPP, computer lab support technicians, media and technology support services, etc. if necessary. Install and repair security devices to prevent theft and/or damage to equipment Report device failures, theft, and damage to supervisor and/or university police services, as appropriate Inventory and label equipment at assigned locations Maintain inventory records Maintain a supply of equipment such as computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, etc. Reorder parts and components to replenish inventory as necessary Maintain equipment in a clean and orderly fashion Prepare desktop systems, printers, monitors, etc. for recycling and salvage, to include but not limited to removal of data from computer hard drives Log all equipment designated for recycling and salvage Report facility and building issues to supervisor Operate university vehicles as required Lock and unlock labs as needed Log actions when applicable to ensure complete and accurate documentation

Requirements

  • Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation.
  • Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training.
  • Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience.
  • A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
