About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: The NASA SES III contract provides IT services throughout all aspects of the engineering process of the entire space systems arena. We are looking for a Part-time college intern who values exploration, discovery, efficiency, and finding resolutions to complex issues. Our team supports NASA located at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), “home to the nation's largest organization of scientists, engineers, and technologists who build spacecraft, instruments and new technology to study Earth, the sun, our solar system, and the universe.” Type of Internship: This will be a part-time internship position, although it will be full time for 2 months during the summer. Location: This position is a hybrid position and will require a level of onsite support. Candidate should be able to support 10- 20 hours per week and visits to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD. The Goddard Mission Services Evolution Center (GMSEC) mission is an integrated effort across multiple GSFC organizations to provide GSFC mission services. GMSEC provides mission enabling, cost reducing, and risk reducing data system solutions applicable to current and future missions managed by GSFC. GMSEC will enable the continued recognition of GSFC as a leader in space mission expertise and services. GMSEC is composed of architecture, a set of core software components, and interface standards that together address many of the problems associated with developing and efficiently operating complex and long-term software systems.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of the software development processes
  • Good knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or Oracle databases
  • Good knowledge of XML
  • Good knowledge of Web service interface
  • Graphical user interface design and implementation experience
  • Strong command of Java, C/C++, and/or Python
  • Proficient knowledge of shell scripting language and Linux operating system
  • Proficiency with an integrated development environment (IDE) such as Eclipse or NetBeans
  • US Citizenship is required, and Section 508 (Agency Standards) is applicable.
  • Ability to obtain required National Agency Check (NAC) clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Perl helpful but not required
  • Experience working with JNI (Java Native Interface) desired
  • Knowledge of the systems engineering processes helpful

Responsibilities

  • The intern shall provide overall GMSEC support to relevant GMSEC customers.
  • system development and testing prior to each major release
  • generation of release documentation
  • support of audits
  • attending relevant meetings
  • participating in configuration management and requirements management activities
  • completing mandatory training
  • preparing status reports
  • attending product demonstrations, etc.
  • support other related tasks as needed and directed by management.
