About The Position

This position is responsible for the coordination and management of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) operations within the Bureau of Bridges and Structures. This position is responsible for the management of CADD personnel, training, standardization, scheduling, file transfers, file management and CADD technical support.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR Eight years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires occasional in-state travel with overnight stays.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising technical staff in a production environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for coordinating with engineers, technicians, and external partners.
  • Proficiency with Bentley’s OpenBridge Modeler and ProStructures.
  • Experience with ProjectWise or similar document management systems.
  • Experience developing or maintaining CADD standards, cell libraries, and configuration files.
  • Experience developing training material or leading technical workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) group and coordinates subordinate activities to achieve timely, correct, and completion of drafted plans.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work to meet scheduled project lettings and project deadlines.
  • Monitors the quality of CADD unit work and takes necessary corrective action.
  • Motivates, evaluates and develops subordinate personnel.
  • Provides support and training to users in CADD operations and with structural detailing while promoting standardization of details.
  • Coordinates the resolution of CADD system utilization problems, ensuring sufficient information is available to identify the cause of system problems.
  • Recommends enhancements to improve CADD system use and evaluates proposed enhancements.
  • Updates CADD configuration, manuals, cell libraries, as well as being responsible for file transfers and file management as needed.
  • Manages CADD supplies and supervises special CADD projects.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
