About The Position

The Compute Engineer, Systems Engineering is a key member of the Systems Engineering Team, responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise compute platforms across on‑premises and cloud environments. This role ensures the reliability, security, scalability, and operational excellence of Windows and Linux server platforms that support critical business applications.   The Server Engineer brings a strong engineering mindset with an emphasis on automation, standardization, and resiliency. Working closely with platform teams, application teams, security, and offshore Managed Service Providers (MSPs), this role provides technical leadership across the full lifecycle of compute infrastructure—from design and deployment through day‑2 operations and optimization.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, OR equivalent practical experience (10 or more years of relevant experience considered in lieu of degree)
  • 4 or more years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or server engineering roles
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in AWS and/or Azure IaaS services
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server operating systems
  • Experience supporting Linux operating systems (RHEL preferred)
  • Experience operating in hybrid environments spanning on‑premises and cloud platforms
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and related core infrastructure services
  • Experience with SCCM, OS patching, and enterprise configuration management
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and operating system issues

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Red Hat, AWS, Azure, Nutanix)
  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible or Terraform
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms and virtual environment administration (Nutanix and/or VMware)
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage, networking, and security concepts
  • Experience with disaster recovery, backup technologies, and business continuity planning
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working with offshore or managed service providers
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed
  • Ability to install and configure server-related hardware and lift up to 50 pounds when required

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise Windows Server and Linux (RHEL) compute platforms across on‑premises, co‑location, and cloud environments.
  • Plan and execute server builds, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning activities.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity; identify optimization opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and promote standard operating procedures and engineering standards for Compute platforms.
  • Drive automation for provisioning, configuration, patching, and operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code approaches.
  • Maintain highly automated OS patching processes and ensure consistent configuration across environments.
  • Implement and maintain system hardening, patching, and compliance controls for Windows and Linux workloads.
  • Conduct server audits to ensure adherence to security standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Design, implement, and test disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for Compute platforms.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex compute, OS, and virtualization issues.
  • Serve as L3/L4 escalation support for offshore Managed Service Providers responsible for day-to-day operations.
  • Provide technical direction, oversight, and mentoring to MSP teams and internal partners.
  • Partner with architects, application teams, cloud teams, and security teams to design resilient and secure solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Act as a liaison to business and platform teams using compute management tools in AWS and Azure.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design standards, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support for global compute environments as required.
