About The Position

The Hydrogen Isotope Science Group at SRNL is seeking a motivated scientist with expertise in computational materials simulation, process-structure-property relationships, and modeling of unit operations for hydrogen isotope processing and fusion energy applications. The selected candidate will develop computational tools to predict material properties and potentially aid in the optimization of fuel cycle processes critical to fusion energy operations.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience after completion of PhD degree.
  • Strong programming skills in various languages including Python, C++, for simulation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of computational toolsets for multiscale and Multiphysics modeling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams and clearly communicate technical results to difference audiences.
  • Ability to hold a DOE Q security clearance for which US Citizenship is legally required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop computational models for hydrogen isotope processing systems
  • Perform physics-based modeling of material under extreme conditions, involving radiation, high temperatures, and magnetic fields.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers across different organizations.
  • Employ advanced computational methods such as molecular dynamics (MD), Monte Carlo, and finite element analysis (FEA), applied mathematical modeling and statistics to address hydrogen isotope processing and fusion energy challenges.
  • Present findings as applicable to internal or external stakeholders, including technical conferences, business meetings and peer-reviewed publications.
