About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Instructor/Faculty in Computational Biology/Neuroscience to join our Department of Psychiatry. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to advance the integration of machine learning with multimodal biological data (including genomics, neuroimaging, digital phenotyping, and clinical information) to address foundational questions in the interaction between organism development and trauma. The successful candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary team at the Laboratory of Translation Psychiatry across computational biology, neuroscience, psychiatry, and data science, contributing both methodological innovation and impactful scientific discovery. Day-to-day, the candidate will develop and apply state-of-the-art computational biology models, participate in the design and execution of multimodal data pipelines, and collaborate on publications and grant applications. This position provides a unique environment for scientific growth, hands-on experience with cutting-edge datasets, and opportunities for leadership within large collaborative projects that are central to the department's research mission.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in computational biology, neuroscience, bioinformatics, data science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of postgraduate neuropsychiatric research experience in computational biology.
  • Fluency in both R and Python computational environments.
  • Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Singularity, Charliecloud).
  • Experience with statistical modeling and data analysis of large-scale biological datasets.

Nice To Haves

  • Multiple first-author and/or main co-author peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated record of grant funding.
  • Experience with Machine Learning (scikit-learn) and Deep Learning (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Experience analyzing embryologic and developmental datasets spanning prenatal-to-adult trajectories, including longitudinal and time-resolved biological data.
  • Proficiency working in high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Strong background in multimodal data integration (e.g., genomic, imaging, behavioral, or clinical datasets).
  • Proficiency with version control using Git/GitHub/GitLab.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaborative skills. Ability to lead collaborative research efforts and communicate effectively across computational and clinical disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize computational and machine learning pipelines for multimodal biological and clinical datasets.
  • Conduct rigorous statistical and computational analyses to investigate brain development and neuropsychiatric disorders.
  • Collaborate with investigators across disciplines to develop research questions, interpret results, and prepare manuscripts.
  • Contribute to grant writing, progress reports, and collaborative funding efforts.
  • Develop and maintain reproducible codebases, including version control, containerization, and workflow automation.
  • Support data integration, harmonization, and quality control across heterogeneous datasets.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings and external conferences.
