Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center seeks a Computational Biologist in New York, NY to provide support to research projects by designing, developing, and implementing software tools for processing and analyzing high-throughput next-generation sequencing data. This role also involves providing one-on-one consultation and training to research scientists and bioinformatics and software engineers in the use of bioinformatics software tools and databases. The individual will be responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation as part of the bioinformatics data processing and analysis system, and will design, develop, and operate software and databases within this system. Consultation and guidance to research scientists and other bioinformatics and software engineers at the Center are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and 1 year of experience in the position offered or related; or a Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and 2 years of experience in the position offered or related
  • 1 year of experience with Scripting languages including Perl or Python
  • 1 year of experience with Statistical programming including R
  • 1 year of experience utilizing principles of Genetics to perform bioinformatic data analysis
  • 1 year of experience with NGS data analysis
  • Coursework or experience in molecular biology including Cloning, PCR, and Pulldown assays

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to research projects by designing, developing, and implementing software tools for processing and analyzing high-throughput next-generation sequencing data
  • Provide one-one-one consultation and training to research scientists and bioinformatics and software engineers in the use of bioinformatics software tools and databases
  • Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation as part of the bioinformatics data processing and analysis system
  • Design, develop, and operate software and databases as part of bioinformatics data processing and analysis system
  • Provide consultation and guidance to research scientists as well as other bioinformatics and software engineers at the Center
